Hi Katherine and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you have RA though and have lost your Mum - I'm 33 and was diagnosed about 20 months ago just after the birth of my son, I also have a nearly 5 year old daughter. I'm on triple combination DMARD therapy (Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine and Hydroxychloroquine) as well as steroids and anti-inflammatories.

Hope your medication and holiday gives you some relief soon.

A quick thank you to Lyn for sharing her experiences with Ciclosporine. I look forward to hearing how you get on with your knees. It may sound strange , but I often fantasise about remission, replacement knees and wrists and a prescription for the new wonder drugs. There is no quick fix though is there?

Hi Katharine

A quick fix would be so wonderful wouldn't it? We can but dream but in the meantime remission would be just as nice. My RA is well controlled but has never reached the point where I can say it is in remission. Consequently joint damage continues but at a much slower pace due to the excellent medication along the way.

I used to think how great it would be to have the iffy joints replaced with super duper bionic ones. However, I do have a wrist replacement and it isn't exactly the result I hoped for. Granted no pain, but very limited movement which inevitably causes further problems with my hand. I'm possibly heading down the road of knee replacements but holding out as long as possible. I know knee replacements are tried and trusted but ... once bitten etc. !

Have a lovely time in Crete. Where are you staying? We stayed in Aghios Nikolaos many years ago but expect it will all have changed now sadly. Don't forget to plaster on the sun cream!!

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

Thanks Lyn. Am off to the hills above the coast and to the West of Chania. It is a peaceful spot so really looking forward to it. Will slap on the Factor 50 as usual but will probably postpone new meds until my return as don't want to ruin the hols with side effects etc.
